Alsace white wine – Riesling

Alsace Riesling wine in our shop

This is the Rhine grape par excellence! Everyone agrees that the Rhine valley is its birthplace. For some, it is the Argitis minor of the Romans, and its cultivation dates back to the Roman occupation. The name Riesling comes from riesen (to run in German) because before it was acclimatised to Alsace, it was susceptible to running. Although often cited in the 19th century, it was not until the 1960s that Riesling became Alsace’s leading grape variety.

Recognised as one of the best white grape varieties in the world, Alsace Riesling is a gastronomic wine par excellence. As well as its natural accompaniment to Alsatian cuisine (sauerkraut, matelote, smoked pork shoulder, etc.), it excels with fish, shellfish (scallops) and crustaceans. It gracefully highlights the iodised flavours of seafood. It is equally admirable with poultry, white meats and goat’s cheese.

A commitment to quality and nature

At Domaine Bléger, the excellence of our wines is based on a profound respect for nature and a constant quest for quality. For several generations, we have been cultivating our vines in harmony with their environment, convinced that the richness of a wine begins with the soil that nourishes it. Our estate is certified organic, a strong commitment that guarantees practices that respect the soil, biodiversity and the vine’s natural cycle. We favour natural methods, banning synthetic pesticides and herbicides to preserve the purity of our grapes and the authenticity of our terroirs.
